HAWAII KAI — Last week, the Kaiser football team stopped a 12-game losing streak with a tie against Aiea.

This week, the Cougars got their first win in over two years with a 28-12 victory over visiting Kalaheo Friday night in both teams' OIA Division II season opener.

Curtis Chung bookended Kaiser's scoring with two 1-yard touchdown runs to help the Cougars improve to 1-0-1 and 1-0 in league play.

Kalaheo (0-2 overall, 0-1 OIA D2) scored the first TD of the game on a 91-yard kickoff return and scored on a 91-yard interception return to put the Mustangs up, 12-8, but couldn't hold off the Kaiser offense from scoring the next three TDs.

Koa Tom threw a 8-yard TD pass to Mason Yoshino and Joseph Chin returned a fumble 61 yards to the house to give the Cougars a 22-12 lead after the first quarter. Chung added to that lead in the second quarter for the final points of the game.

Kaiser travels to Pearl City next Friday while Kalaheo will play McKinley at Roosevelt on Saturday.
