Pomai Kim's two-out single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning scored River Iaea to give Damien an 8-7 walk-off win over Maryknoll at Les Murakami Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

The Monarchs rebounded from back-to-back losses in their previous two games to improve to 6-4 and sit 1 1/2 games behind first-place Saint Francis in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's Division II standings.

The Spartans dropped their second straight contest to fall to 5-5. They are in fifth place in the seven-team ILH D1 standings.

Damien erased three different Maryknoll leads in the game to overcome four errors of its own.

The Spartans held a 3-0 lead after the first inning, a 5-3 lead after the top of the fifth, and a 7-5 lead after the sixth. However, the Monarchs tied the game and eventually won it in the seventh.

Akila Arecchi led off the inning with a single before Shiloh Kaeo was hit by a pitch to put the tying run aboard. Kaimana Cameron then drew a walk to load the bases and Kamakani Motas hit a sacrifice fly to left field to allow Arecchi to tag up and score on the play.

Iaea then hit a ground ball to second base, but it was mishandled and Iaea reached base on an error. On the play, Alohi Arecchi — the courtesy runner for Kaeo — scored as a result of the error to tie it, but Cameron was nabbed trying to take second for the second out of the inning.

On the very first pitch of his consequent at-bat, Kim lined a single to right to score Iaea for the winning run.

Kaeo batted 2 for 3 and Motas went 2 for 4 with a double and three runs batted in. Both Arecchi's scored twice for the Monarchs, who used four pitchers in the game.

Kayson Kajiwara allowed one hit with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings of work and got the win.

Drayden Yamauchi batted 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored and MAddux Miyasato tripled with two runs batted in for Maryknoll, which used three pitchers. Justice Yamashita was charged with the loss.
