Mililani, Aiea claim OIA JV softball titles


 





Different season. Different levels. Same two winning schools.

Six and a half months after winning the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I and Division II softball championship plaques, Mililani and Aiea once again became home to league-winning softball squads Thursday afternoon, albeit this time at the junior varsity level.

Mililani throttled Castle, 8-0, to claim the OIA D1 JV title at their home field on the campus of Mililani High School. The Trojans last won the JV championship in the fall of 2014.

Trojans' starting pitcher Joie Baker went six innings and fanned nine batters while giving up just one walk, two hits and zero runs.

Serenity Jackson came in the seventh inning to close the game out and to preserve the shutout.

The Trojans spaced out their scoring attack, getting runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Mililani finishes its season 12-1 with the only loss courtesy of Leilehua (10-3), whom Castle (11-2) defeated Wednesday afternoon in the four-team OIA playoffs to reach the title game.

In the other title game, Aiea took home the OIA D2 JV championship after scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to squeeze past Waialua, 7-5, at Aiea Annex Field.

Aiea defeated Radford (5-5) while Waialua defeated Kalani (7-5) in their respective OIA playoffs semifinal matchups to reach the championship game.

Na Alii finishes at a perfect 13-0.

The Bulldogs finish at 11-2 with their only two losses coming from the hands of Aiea.

The two squads first played each other on Sept. 16 with Aiea winning, 14-0.
