KALIHI — In the spirit of the holidays, the Kamehameha boys basketball team spread the love Wednesday night.

Freshman Christmas Togiai scored 16 points and sophomore Kamren Victorino-Kato had 15 as Kamehameha cruised to a 57-30 win over host Farrington in a preseason game at Richard Kitamura Gymnasium.

The Warriors (4-0) played with a short bench — just 10 players — and without their second-leading scorer, junior forward Kobe Young (9.7 points per game), who was home dealing with a fever.

"Without having Kobe here today, we kind of spread the minutes and everybody got a piece of the action so I'm really pleased," Kamehameha coach Greg Tacon said.

All 10 of the Warriors got into the game and scored at least one point and collectively helped hold the Governors (1-4) to their second-lowest scoring output this year.

"Everybody had a little piece that they did really well tonight — whether it be on the defensive or offensive side — so we're really happy as a group and then for each kid to have some success," Tacon said.

Togiai, a 5-foot-10 guard, hit three of Kamehameha's four 3-pointers. He had nine points by halftime and did all of his scoring by the end of three quarters.

"He's kind of wise beyond his years," Tacon said. "He's really smart, plays under control and while we don't really look for him to score a lot, he can shoot it. He gained a little confidence tonight, but watch when he plays: he's always under control, he doesn't panic. For a freshman kid, that's a lot to say and we're really pleased with what he's done in the first few games."

The Warriors never trailed in the game and broke open a 9-all tie with a 14-0 run that began with a 13-foot jumper by Blaze Guerrero and was capped by Nakoa Pauole's putback that gave them a 23-9 lead with 3:19 left in the first half.

Kamehameha outscored Farrington, 14-5, in the second quarter to take a 27-11 lead into halftime, and extended it to 43-16 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Despite a lopsided score for much of the night, the Warriors used the opportunity to fine tune aspects of their game on both sides of the court.

"I thought our effort was there all game," Tacon said. "We're trying to do things defensively; Trying to be really aggressive in the backcourt — whether it be in a zone-type situation or a man situation — I was really happy with the kids in that and then on offense, I thought our decision-making was really good."

Reymar Morales had nine points and Zeke Santiago seven for the Govs, who turned it over 16 times.

It was the first of four games in as many days for the Warriors, who went 3-0 over the weekend en route to the Kailua Surfrider Holiday Classic title. They will take part in the OIA-ILH Challenge Thursday through Saturday at Moanalua.

Tacon said he expects Young to play against Kalaheo Thursday.
