Final pairings for state tennis championships set


Championship match pairings have been set for the final day of the Carlsmith Ball/Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Tennis Championships at the Fairmont Orchid Hawaii Tennis Center and Mauna Lani Bay Hotel Fitness Club on the Big Island.

In boys singles, Andre Ilagan of Farrington defeated third-seeded Mckenna Fujitani of Punahou 6-3, 6-3, while Iolani's Phuc Hyunh bested Mid-Pacific's Hideto Kitagawa 7-6 (1), 6-2.

Punahou's Alyssia Fossorier stunned top-seeded Emily Soares from Hilo High, 6-4, 6-3, while third-seed Taylor Lau (Saint Francis) took down second-seed Katreina Corpuz of Punahou, 6-3, 6-4. Lau reached the final for the third straight year.

In doubles action, top seeds Austin Hamamoto/Hia Lam (Punahou) and Sarah Ikioka/Kylee Kato (Kamehameha-Maui) both advanced to the finals.
