League postseason play in full swing this week


Postseason baseball is in full swing across the state this week.

The Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I tournament gets underway with Wednesday's first round. Waianae will visit Roosevelt, Castle plays at Campbell, Moanalua hosts Waipahu and Kaiser and Aiea will face off at Waipahu in opening-round matchups. Pearl City, Kalani, Mililani and Kailua have byes Wednesday in the 12-team tournament and play first-round winners Thursday. The semifinals take place Friday with the championship game Saturday, both days at Hans L'Orange Park.

The six-team OIA D2 tournament runs from Thursday through Saturday with the title game taking place at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hans L'Orange. It will precede the D1 final.

Meanwhile, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu rolls into the second and final week of its second round. Punahou takes on Mid-Pacific in a winners' bracket game at Patsy T. Mink/Central Oahu Regional Park, while Iolani meets Saint Louis in a losers' bracket game at Goeas Field Tuesday. The second round concludes Saturday with a Noon game at CORP.

The four-team ILH D2 tournament also starts Tuesday with Saint Francis facing off against Hanalani and Pac-Five doing battle with Damien in a doubleheader at Hans L'Orange.

The Big Island Interscholastic Federation will hold its championship series at Francis Wong Stadium Friday and Saturday. Konawaena takes on Kamehameha-Hawaii in D2, while Waiakea and Hilo will meet for the D1 crown. Both best-of-three series start with single games Friday and Saturday and game three on Monday, if necessary.

Over on the Valley Isle, the Maui Interscholastic League will hold its postseason tournaments at Iron Maehara Stadium this week. King Kekaulike and Lahainaluna will get the action started Wednesday night, with the winner earning the right to face regular-season champion and tournament top seed Baldwin Thursday night. Maui High and Kamehameha-Maui meet in the other semifinal Friday night. The semifinals winners play at Noon Saturday.

Unbeaten Molokai is the top seed in the four-team MIL D2 tournament and opens against Lanai Thursday. Seabury Hall and St. Anthony face off in the other semifinal, with the winners meeting in Friday's tournament final. 

Meanwhile, there is little drama on the Garden Isle, where Kauai has already clinched the Kauai Interscholastic Federation title and the league's lone spot in the D2 state tournament.
