ALA WAI— As the fireworks were popping in the background in Waikiki, Taylor Meilleur helped second-ranked Saint Louis light up Iolani, 11-0 in six innings at Ala Wai Field on Friday night.

The senior catcher went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple and three RBI as the Crusaders improved to 3-1 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu standings. His two RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth ignited the Saint Louis offense and never looked back. The Crusaders belted out 15 hits for the game.

"Leading by example," said Meilleur, who was a member of the 2014 championship team. "We have a lot of young guys out this year and if I get out there and make sure everyone is working hard then we'll keep winning."

"Taylor is one of our captains and he's led us for two years. He'll talk, but it always positive. He will lead by example," said Gusman.

Iolani, who beat No. 1 Kamehameha this past Wednesday, fell to 2-2 in the standings.

Meilleur brought in Keith Torres for the first score of the game with an RBI double. Meilleur got on base due to an error by the second baseman in the third inning and Ronson Trimbreza came in as a courtesy runner. Matt Wong brought in Trimbreza with a single as the Crusaders went up, 2-0.

DJ Stephens singled and Jordan Iwasaki walked Torres. Meilleur came in a crushed a triple deep to center field to bring in two runs. Kaiolohia Perreira-Alquiza singled to bring in Trimbreza and eventually scored to make it, 6-0.

Chase Meilleur picked up the win and threw five strikes. The Crusader defense was air tight as they held the Raiders to two hits all game. Practically every ball hit to the defender was converted into an out.

"Chase is a ground ball pitcher and we have to hand it to our defense our job is to get strikes for him. He gets strikes and when the ball gets in play, we have to go get it," said Meilleur, on his younger brother.

"He induced a lot of ground balls and fortunately we made all the plays," said Gusman, on his defense.

Jordan Iwasaki took the loss and pitched four innings and gave up four earned runs before making way to Brandon Yanagi who also had four earned runs.

Saint Louis drove in five runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game due to the 10-run mercy rule. Meilleur singled to get on base and Perreira-Alquiza walked. Brendan Uchima brought in another run with a double. Triston Campbell and Michael Murakami came in as substitutions. Campbell got on base from an error and Murakami drove in the run that ended the game.

As the teams were lining up to shake hands, both head coaches exchanged a few heated words. The umpires and members of the coaching staffs stepped in and eventually the coaches talked it out for several minutes before shaking hands and going on their own way.

"It was nothing there. Kurt is a young guy and he's trying to make sure his guys do the right thing. I think they lost their composure a little bit and some of the stuff going on at first plate and the tag at the end wasn't necessary, but it is what it is," said Gusman.
