MIL's 3-0 outcome tempers high-scoring affairs

After a barrage of scoring a week earlier, at least on Oahu, the Maui Interscholastic League pulled off one of the lowest-scoring games when Maui beat Baldwin, 3-0.

It was only the second time the MIL had such an outcome since 1940. The other time was when St. Anthony beat Lahainaluna in 1987.

The MIL also was involved in two other 3-0 games, both in non-league action against Oahu teams.  Baldwin beat Farrington in 2003 at Aloha Stadium and Maui beat host Kaiser in 1990.

Aside from scoreless ties before the advent of overtime during the regular season, the lowest-scoring MIL game was when Maui beat Lahainaluna, 2-0, in 1958. Iolani did the same against Lahainaluna in a 1960 non-league game at Honolulu Stadium. (These were non-forfeited games. Forfeited games are recorded at 2-0.)

There have been 10 scoreless ties in the MIL since 1942.

Last weekend, Kapaa beat Waimea, 68-0. That was the second-highest output by a KIF team. In 1951, Kauai beat Kapaa 69-13.

Waimea owns the only other two KIF games that raeached the 60-point barrier. Waimea beat Kauai 63-0 in 2000 and beat Kapaa, 66-7, in 1999.

In Thursday's Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Blue game that Mililani beat Farrington, 71-28, the 99 combined points ties for 17th all-time.  See chart below.
