Ezekiel Elliott rushed for three touchdowns and Ohio State pulled away from Hawaii Saturday, 38-0.

The reigning national-champion Buckeyes (2-0), who are the consensus No. 1-ranked team in the Associated Press poll, rushed for 182 yards and passed for another 181. Elliott, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound junior considered by many a Heisman Trophy contender, scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, a 3-yarder in the second and another 1-yarder in the fourth.

Ohio State, which was coming off a season-opening 42-24 road win at Virginia Tech Monday night, was 5 for 5 on red-zone chances. Starting quarterback Cardale Jones threw for 111 yards on 12-of-18 passing, while J.T. Barrett completed 8 of 15 passes for 70 yards. Samuel Curtis had game-highs of seven receptions for 53 yards.

Elliott's final touchdown was part of a 21-point fourth quarter for the Buckeyes, which included a 14-yard fumble return by Vonn Bell and a 5-yard touchdown run by Bri'onte Dunn. Jack Willoughby kicked a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter and was 5 of 5 on extra points.

The Rainbow Warriors (1-1) managed just 165 yards of total offense and turned it over four times, including a pair of Max Wittek interceptions. The senior quarterback completed just 7 of 24 passes for 67 yards. Isaiah Bernard had three catches for 18 yards and Paul Harris rushed for 46 yards on 14 carries.

Benneton Fonua had a game-high 12 tackles and Marrell Jackson added 11 stops for Hawaii, which had not played since beating Colorado, 28-20, nine days prior in Honolulu to open the season.

Ohio State was anywhere from a 38- to 42 1/2-point favorite by Las Vegas betting lines.

It was the first-ever meeting between the teams.

Hawaii will next host UC Davis at 6 p.m. Saturday at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.
