Hawaiian Electric Game of the Week
No. 6 Farrington slips by No. 10 Moanalua, 42-35

MAKIKI—Behind Challen Faamatau's four touchdowns, No. 6 Farrington outlasted No. 10 Moanalua, 42-35, in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Blue Division game at Roosevelt's Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium on a humid Saturday evening.

"There have been exciting games over the years. Give them (Moanalua) credit for playing hard and being well-coached. I'm happy with the win, but I expect more from our guys," said Farrington coach Randall Okimoto.

The Govs, ranked sixth in the Hawaiian Electric/ScoringLive Division I Power Rankings improve to 3-0 overall, 2-0 in league play while the Na Menehune fall to 2-2 overall, 1-2 league.

Faamatau scored three of his four touchdowns in the second quarter and amassed 155 yards from scrimmage for the game. He caught eight passes for 99 yards and rushed for 56 yards on 16 carries.

"I love the coaching staff, they trust me, our quarterback and linemen in whatever we do and I thank them," said Faamatau. "I'm a team player and do whatever it takes to the best of my ability. My team counts on me and I can't let them down, that's always in my head because the boys are behind me and you can't fail them."

Bishop Rapoza passed for 316 yards and three touchdowns and Kingston Moses-Sanchez, who was Rapoza's favorite target, led all receivers with 176 yards.

Faamatau rushed for a 4-yard touchdown for the first score and later caught a 30-yard touchdown.

Blake Tom nailed a 22-yard field goal for Moanalua. Andrew Nava intercepted Rapoza near the goal line and returned it to the 28-yard line. Moanalua cashed in the turnover as Yuen threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Bender, but the pass failed as the Na Menehune trailed, 14-9.

Six plays later, Farrington answered back as Faamatau caught a19-yard touchdown from Rapoza with 1:18 to take a 21-9 lead going into halftime.

Moanalua bounced back in the second half scoring 26 unanswered points in the third quarter.

"The mistakes on ‘D' were assignments and guys not being in the right area," said Okimoto. "Mentally we need to be stronger and more mature."

Yuen threw a 40-yard touchdown to Ryan Ramones and on the ensuing kickoff, Brandon Bender recovered the ball as it bounced off a Farrington player. Three plays later, Yuen found Isaiah Jackson for a 17-yard touchdown as the Na Menehune took the lead, 22-21.

Yuen found Ramones again for a 29-yard touchdown and threw a 8-yard touchdown to Feliciano to make it, 35-21 with 1:02 left in the third quarter. Ramones led all Moanalua receivers with seven catches for 149 yards.

The Govs rallied back as Rapoza threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Moses-Sanchez. After Moanalua went three-and-out and a short punt, Farrington scored in three plays capped by Faamatau's 4-yard run. Finau Walter's kick gave the Govs a 36-35 lead.

At the 7:13 mark, Yuen was hurt on the play following a roughing the passer penalty on the Govs and was taken off the field in an ambulance. He finished the game with 351 passing yards and five touchdowns.

Ryota Kony picked off Rodson Kealohi, who came in for Yuen, and returned it for a 17-yard score to give the Govs a 42-35 lead and never looked back. Moanalua's comeback with 39 seconds left came up short as Farrington was able to take a knee.

"I'm proud of our defense and they came out strong," said Faamatau.

Farrington will play at Aiea on Sept. 4 while Moanalua will play at Kapolei on Sept. 5.
