Finalists for Pizza Hut Newcomer Award announced

ScoringLive is proud to announce this year's finalists for the Pizza Hut Newcomer Award, with the overall winner to be named in mid-June.

The seven student-athletes are:

Kalie Halvorsen, Punahou, 9
Halvorsen was the only freshman to garner All-Hawaii Girls Soccer honors and was also an ILH first team pick. She ranked 12th amongst all Division I goal scorers with 12 in 2015.

Jarred Kaneshiro, Maryknoll, 10
Kaneshiro was undefeated on the mound this year for the Spartans, posting a 0.19 ERA in 37 innings of work. He was named to the HHSAA Division II All-Tournament team and was also a 2nd team league selection.

Victoria Kintz, Kaimuki, 10
Kintz averaged 16.7 points per game for the Bulldogs in 2015, helping her garner a spot on the Division II All-Hawaii Girls Basketball first team as well as a 2nd team selection in OIA East balloting.

Randy Manewa, Nanakuli, 11
Manewa anchored the Golden Hawks linebacking corps, earning him first team honors on the Division II All-Hawaii Football and the Defensive Player of the Year nod in OIA Division II voting.

Sammie Ofoia, Saint Francis, 9
Ofoia ranked in the top five in six offensive categories in 2015, a season that saw her amass 26 hits (1st), 19 runs (T-2nd), 27 RBI (3rd), five doubles (4th), three triples (T-3rd) and seven home runs (T-1st) for the Saints.

Justice Sueing, Maryknoll, 10
Sueing averaged a state-best 19.9 points per game, and was the lone underclassmen to earn All-Hawaii Division I Boys Basketball honors. His free-throw percentage (77.7) ranked ninth overall, and his attempts at the charity stripe (121) ranked him second only to Kalaheo's Kaleb Gilmore (139).

Tua Tagovailoa, Saint Louis 10
Tagovailoa threw for 2,583 yards and 33 touchdowns for the Cruasders in his sophomore campaign. His touchdown-to-interception ratio was a downright flithy 11 to 1, and he added 567 rushing yards and eight scores, for good measure. He was a second-team selection on the 2015 All-Hawaii Division I Football team and an ILH first-team pick.

The Pizza Hut Newcomer is awarded for superior performance by a student-athlete participating in their first year of play in varsity athletics.

Freshmen, as well as any players who have not yet played in a league contest or state tournament are eligible.
