WAIPAHU - Dorrien Villanueva-Hermosura was one of four pitchers to combine on a three-hitter to lead top-ranked Campbell over Waipahu, 7-0, Thursday night at Hans L'Orange Park.
The Sabers and No. 2 Mililani still share the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Western Division with 6-0 records. They will meet 11 a.m. Saturday at Mililani. The state's top prospect, Ian Kahaloa, is the probable starting pitcher for the Sabers.
Campbell showed its pitching depth against the Marauders (2-4). The four pitchers combined to strike out 14. Villanueva, making his first start of the season, pitched four innings, allowing two hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Chad Samante followed with an inning, walking one and striking out two. Keola Himan came in from right field, allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two. Sophomore Markus Ramos pitched the final inning, walking one and strikeout two.
Kahaloa, who was the designated hitter, started the Sabers' scoring with a two-run triple to center to ignite a five-run third inning. Himan, Blayze Arcano Llacuna and Jake Mendoza each had RBI singles in that inning.
The Sabers added two runs in the sixth on Bula Sprinkel's run-scoring triple and later on Villanueva's RBI single.
Waipahu starting pitcher Dustyn Mori lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs, three hits and four walks.
