Jasmine Moody scored 14 points and Tanisha Elbourne added 10 more to help Radford defeat Mililani, 42-37 in the first round of the New City Nissan/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I Girls Basketball Championships at Moanalua's gymnasium Tuesday evening.

The Rams, ranked No. 9 in the ScoringLive/OC16 Girls Basketball Power Rankings, advances to face Maui Interscholastic League champion Lahainaluna in a quarterfinal game Wednesday.

Radford trailed 10-7 after the first quarter, but outscored Mililani 14-4 in the second to take a 21-14 lead at the half. Elbourne was a key contributor in the period with two steals and a couple of fast break buckets.

The Rams maintained their seven-point lead into the final period of regulation thanks to Moody's five points in the third quarter.

The early stages of the fourth quarter was a seesaw battle between both teams. Whenever Mililani would cut the lead down to five, Radford would answer right back to go up by seven. The Trojans finally found some life on Kayla Torres' 3-pointer from the right wing just before the period's media timeout. This made the score 33-29 with 3:59 left in regulation.

Things got interesting when Torres nailed another 3-pointer — this time from the left corner — to make the score 35-32 with 3:30 on the clock. A Jazymn Peralta fast break bucket and two Elbourne free throws pushed the lead back up to seven with 1:34 left. Mililani would get back into it with a floater from Jamie Yuki and a triple from Megan Shimabukoro to make it a two-point game, 39-37. That would be the closest the Trojans would get as they were unable to notch another point and Radford was able to hold on for the win.

Tip-off between the Rams and Lahainaluna is set for 5 p.m.
