In a tightly contested battle, St. John Bosco just had enough in the reserves to pull away from the Eagles.

The Braves outscored Second Baptist (Houston), 21-17 in double overtime to come away with an 83-78 victory in the third quarterfinal game of the 31st annual Iolani Classic Thursday night. St. John Bosco advances to face national power Oak Hill in the 8 p.m. semifinal Friday.

With the game going into six periods, depth really played a factor against Second Baptist. The Eagles only played nine players and had two players foul out and four finish with four fouls.

Second Baptist guard Jalen Weber converted of 10 of his 20 shot attempts for a game-high 30 points. Ty Dalton, who played with four fouls since the 4:50 mark of the third quarter, filled the stat sheet with 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Will Burns knocked down five of his 10 shot attempts from beyond the arc for 15 points.

The contest between the Eagles and the Braves can be best described as a game of traded runs. St. John Bosco rattled off five quick points to being the first quarter, but Second Baptist to tie the game at 6-all. After Second Baptist tied the game on Dalton's runner, St. John Bosco went on a 9-0 run that prompted a timeout at the 3:37 mark. Following the timeout, the Eagles closed out the quarter with a 9-2 run to make it 17-15 after the first.

Both teams traded blows in the second quarter with neither team able to pull away from the other. The score was 27-26 in favor of the Braves at the half.

St. John Bosco would maintain its lead during the entire duration of the third quarter. The Eagles would not see the lead until Dalton's put back early in the fourth to make the score 41-39. Second Baptist would push its lead to six after back-to-back triples from Burns and Kaleon Money.

The Braves retook the lead on a 9-0 run capped by two straight scores by Henderson which made the score 52-49. A three-point play by Weber tied things up at 52 apiece for the final score of regulation. St. John Bosco had a chance to win the game with 10.6 left on the clock, but Jackson's fadeaway jumper from the elbow was off its target.

The first overtime period was a defensive battle with both teams scoring nine points each. Both teams had a chance in the final minute of the period to win the game, but a 10-second backcourt violation against Second Baptist and a 5-second inbound violation against St. John Bosco forced the game into a second overtime period.
