SALT LAKE — Kamehameha routed Moanalua, 48-28 on the final day of the OIA-ILH Challenge at Moanalua High School on Saturday night.

Jayden Zarriello and Fatu Sua-Godinet scored nine points each and Kobe Young added eight points, six rebounds and three blocks. The Warriors shot 6 of 11 from the 3-point line and grabbed 32 rebounds for the game.

"We don't have a signature scorer, we play a bunch of kids and every knows what a good shot is versus a bad shot is and we encourage them to shoot it," said Kamehameha coach Greg Tacon.

Kamehameha's Jayden Zarriello and Saint Gelacio drained back-to-back 3's to take a 12-4 lead after the first quarter. Moanalua didn't make their first field goal until about the 1:36 mark after Kyrie McRaven made a shot in the paint.

"We were kind of disappointed with our effort yesterday, but you have to give Kalani credit too, they outplayed us but our effort wasn't where we need it to be. We're not going to be crazy offensively so we have to create some things. I thought tonight, the kids from the get-go came out enthusiastic," said Tacon.

The Warriors took a 10-point lead, 17-7 after Cade Pedro made a shot as he was fouled. Zarriello hit a 3 from the right wing and Kamehameha used a 11-6 run to close out the quarter to take a 28-12 lead going into halftime.

"For a team like ours is extremely young and inexperienced so every rep they get is important, Moanalua is physical and it gave us some confidence to play defense on the perimeter and we have to go against teams that are more physical than others so we can match that physicality," said Tacon.

The Na Menehune scored eight of their 12 points in the final 2 minutes of the third quarter, but Kamehameha pushed the lead to more than 20 after Young hit a 3-pointer from the right wing. The Warriors were able to empty out the bench in the fourth.

Moanalua shot 7 of 34 (20.6 percent) from the field for the game.

"Once we stop beating ourselves, then we'll have a chance to beat other teams, that's where we're at right now. Our guard play is inexperienced, it's going back to basics, doing your job and building some trust, right now we don't trust each other on the court. Ironic thing is that they are friends off the court and tight and hard working, I don't think we learned to trust each other on the court, once we figure that out we'll be fine," said Moanalua coach Byron Mello.

Kamehameha will participate in the Iolani Classic next week and will take on Oak Hill from Mouth of Wilson, VA on Tuesday. Moanalua will have some time to get some practices in and will participate in the Punahou Invitational.

"I think over the next couple weeks we'll find out a lot more about ourselves and we need to take big steps forward in the next couple weeks and go into Punahou with an idea of a rotation we're going to have and putting ourselves in position to winning games. We're finding about ourselves," said Mello.
