Clemons, Tashiro win OIA cross country titles


The McKinley boys and Kaiser girls captured the team titles at the Oahu Interscholastic Association cross country championships at Patsy T. Mink/Central Oahu Regional Park Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers' boys finished with 81 points, 18 better than runner-up Radford. Moanalua, Pearl City and Mililani rounded out the top five. Kalaheo senior Makai Clemons cruised to the individual title, completing the three-mile course in a time of 16 minutes and 7.85 seconds. Moanalua's Eric Miyauchi finished second, more than 45 seconds behind Clemons, and Mililani's Jacob Dewald took third.

The Cougars' girls easily defeated second-place Mililani by 32 points. Radford, Kalaheo and Roosevelt rounded out the top five teams. Kaiser junior Lisa Tashiro finished in a time of 19:31.21, over 26 seconds ahead of runner-up Mary Moloney of Radford. Mililani's Vanessa Roybal placed third.

The Honolulu Marathon/Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Championships will take place next Saturday at CORP.
