Final 1 2 3 4 T
Damien (4-5-0) 14 6 0 1434
Saint Louis (6-4-0) 14 27 6 754
Tua Tagovailoa 227 yd 5 TD

Jonathon Manalo 63 yd 1 TD
Kepono Kawaakoa 83 yd 1 TD
Jimmy Nunuha 85 yd 1 TD
Kapiinaokala King 96 yd 2 TD

While Punahou's resounding 68-0 win against Pac-Five made a case for splitting the Division Ones from the Division Twos in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu next season, Saint Louis' 54-34 win against Damien might been an example of keeping the status quo.

Well, not really.

While the Monarchs made it a game against for one quarter against the Crusaders in Friday night's ILH interdivisional football game, reality set in and the Saint Louis marched to victory for the 49th consecutive time against the Monarchs. The 34 points, though, are the most a Damien team has scored against Saint Louis since they started playing each other in 1965.

"It's a tough question to answer," Damien coach Eddie Klaneski said. "At some points, on certain games, it kind of gets out of hand. We had a great game plan coming into Saint Louis. Our boys played tough, but we're undermanned. That's the biggest thing to us. We think we can compete every week if we're healthy, but numbers-wise, it's hard for us to compete against those D-Ones, day in and day out, week-to-week.."

Klaneski said his team started the game with the league minimum 30 players suited, as eight players were out with injuries. Coming off a bye week, the Monarchs came out energized.

"We tried out best," Klaneski said. "But playing those guys week-to-week, back-to-back would be really tough to do."

Damien started the game by recovering an onside kick at the Saint Louis 46, scoring six plays later on a 4-yard fade pass from Dallas Lebanon to the right corner of the end zone to 6-foot-5 wide receiver Kapiinaokala King. But the Monarchs missed the PAT to keep it 6-0.

Quick-striking Saint Louis scored behind sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's 3-yard TD pass to Ricardo Sallas III. Noah Alejado made his PAT to give Saint Louis a 7-6 lead.

The Monarchs returned with an 85-yard drive that ended with Labanon's 8-yard TD pass to Ian Lundberg. Labanon's pass to King for the 2-point conversion put Damien ahead, 14-7.

Saint Louis tied the game at 14 just before the end of the first quarter on Tagovailoa's 33-yard TD pass to Drew Kobayashi.

The Monarchs roared back again on an 80-yard drive that finished with Labanon's 19-yard TD pass to Kanai Picanco. Another missed PAT kept the score 20-14 with 9:14 left in the second quarter.

Damien went for another onside kick, but Saint Louis recovered and midfield. Tagovailoa made Damien pay with a 50-yard TD pass to Allan Cui. Alejado made the PAT to put Saint Louis ahead, 21-20. It was the start of 34 consecutive points that extended the Crusaders' lead to 47-20 early in the third quarter.

Saint Louis started subbing starters.

Tagovailoa completed 11 of 17 passes for 227 yards and five TDs.

Labanon was 15 of 31 for 178 yards and four TDs, two to King, who had five receptions for 83 yards.

Saint Louis' regular season is over at 5-1 with its five wins coming in a row after an 0-3 start. The Crusaders still have their league title hopes alive with the ILH postseason tournament.

Damien closes its regular season Friday against Pac-Five at Aloha Stadium. The Monarchs also will play in the ILH's Division II postseason tournament.
