EWA BEACH — It was a happy birthday indeed for Amosa Amosa Friday.

Terell Johnson rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns to lead Campbell to a 34-6 win over visiting Moanalua.

The Sabers, who are ranked seventh in the ScoringLive/OC16 Division I Football Power Rankings, amassed 554 yards of total offense — including 339 rushing — to improve to 2-0 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association D1 Blue. The 10th-ranked Na Menehune were held to just 197 yards of offense to fall to 1-1.

"It was a really good win," said Johnson, a junior running back. "All the credit goes to the offensive line. They did a hell of a job today."

Johnson carried 18 times and averaged more than 7 yards per attempt. He opened the scoring on a 7-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and added a 50-yard scamper to paydirt in the fourth.

Campbell wore down Moanalua with a punishing ground game that picked up 290 yards on 30 rushes after halftime. Austin May carried 12 times for 73 yards and punched in a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

"Moanalua, because of the way they played us with a seven-man front, we felt like we could throw the ball, but it was (quarterback) Ezra (Savea's) first game back and he was kind of jittery and nervous, so we really wanted to impose our running game, especially in the second half," Amosa said. "We wanted to clean up the running game and get more consistency out of it in the second half."

Savea, a sophomore transfer from Kapolei, completed 18 of 31 passes for 215 yards with one interception in his varsity debut. He threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Kona Reiny-Aloy late in the second quarter and connected with Jayce Bantolina on a 16-yard scoring strike late in the third.

Reiny-Aloy finished with game-highs of seven receptions for 127 yards and Bantolina added six grabs for 74 yards.

The Sabers' defense benefitted from the return of strong safety Solomon Matautia, who recorded a team-high seven tackles a week after sitting out against Castle with a concussion. Defensive end Tristan Ludiazo pressured Moanalua quarterback Kawika Keama-Jacobe all night and notched a pair of sacks.

"We just tried to keep discipline on our contain with our ends, keep their outside shoulder open, keep the pressure good and just always pursue the ball, just everybody rally," Ludiazo said of the gameplan against the speed Jacobe.

Ludiazo said Matautia and the rest of the secondary bought time for the front seven to pressure Jacobe.

"Everytime our secondary is on point like that, me and the rest of the defensive line, we get in there and we get after those quarterbacks because we runs gaps-down defense and we're rushing at least four guys every play so when those guys back there have it down, we eat," Ludiazo said.

Keama-Jacobe completed just 14 of his 27 pass attempts for 124 yards. He was intercepted in the third quarter by Zibrex Cabel, which the Sabers recycled into the Savea-to-Bantolina touchdown pass. Na Menehune standout receiver Jason Sharsh, who caught a pair of touchdown passes against Waianae last week, was held without a catch Friday.

"They did a great job of taking him out of the game, him and Karson Cruz on the edge," Moanalua coach Jason Cauley said. "It was hard to get them the ball. We called things to try and get them the ball, but they just take it away with the pressure and with the great coverage underneath and on top of him."

Na Menehune were led defensively by the trio of Hershie Williams (game-high nine tackles), Kyle Bender (eight tackles) and Kea Rodrigues (six tackles, one sack and an interception).

Moanalua's only score came on a first-quarter touchdown pass from Keama-Jacobe to Michael Feliciano, which went for 14 yards.

Amosa celebrated his 48th birthday Friday.

Campbell now leads the all-time series over Moanalua, 12-4. It was the first time the teams met since 2008.
