Kamehameha intercepted five 'Iolani passes and scored 48 unanswered points after trailing 14-7 yesterday afternoon to rout the Raiders, 55-14, at Eddie Hamada Field.

The Warriors, No. 6 in the ScoringLive/OC16 Power Rankings, improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu heading into Saturday's 7 p.m. showdown with Punahou (8-1, 5-0) at Aloha Stadium.

No. 9 'Iolani fell to 4-4, 2-3.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, the tone was set on yesterday's first play from scrimmage when Kamehameha defensive end Ikea Ikehara recovered a fumble on the 'Iolani 47-yard line. The Warriors cashed in eight plays later on Bronson Barretto's 20-yard touchdown run, and Kanekoa Pawn-White's extra point made it 7-0 with 8:42 remaining in the first quarter.

The Raiders responded with a 13-play, 80-yard drive culminating in Kody Mento's 6-yard touchdown run on third-and-goal, and Jordan Lee's PAT tied it at 7-7 with 5:09 left in the quarter.

After Kamehameha went three-and-out on its ensuing possession, 'Iolani capitalized on an 18-yard punt and needed just four plays to score again, this time on a 30-yard strike from Reece Foy to Sheldon Gallarde on a post route with 2:35 remaining.

"The way the first quarter went -- we were just exchanging scores -- I thought, 'This is going to be a long game,' " Warriors coach David Stant said.

But that would be the last time the Raiders found the end zone.

Kamehameha answered with a six-play, 59-yard drive capped by Makoa Camanse-Stevens' 1-yard quarterback sneak on fourth-and-goal, and Pawn-White converted the extra point to tie it at 14-14.

'Iolani marched 53 yards to the Warriors' 27 following the ensuing kickoff, but on the first play of the second quarter, Brett Yasui made the first of three Kamehameha picks in the half on a fluttery pass near the goal line.

The Raiders' defense held, but after their offense advanced 68 yards to the 10-yard line on the next series, free safety Anthony Borengasser intercepted another pass in the end zone on third-and-goal.

"We moved the ball," 'Iolani coach Wendell Look said, "but you cannot turn it over in the end zone, and we did it twice."

The Warriors struck quickly two plays later, with Camanse-Stevens hitting Ali'i Pedrina on an inside screen and Pedrina galloping 75 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown to put Kamehameha up for good at 20-14 with 4:18 left in the half.

Pono Choy made another interception four plays after the ensuing kickoff and returned it 31 yards to the Raiders' 36.

The Warriors then cashed in four plays later on another 1-yard sneak by Camanse-Stevens, and Braydon Prothero's PAT made it 27-14 with 1:11 remaining before intermission.

'Iolani's offensive woes continued early in the second half, as Taylor Taliulu made a diving pick on the Raiders' second play at the 'Iolani 27. Nephi Stevens then scored on a 10-yard quarterback keeper and Pawn-White converted the extra point to make it 34-14 with 5:42 left in the third quarter.

Barretto capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive with a 4-yard TD run 42 seconds into the fourth quarter, and Tanner Asuncion later came up with Kamehameha's fifth interception, helping the Warriors seal the victory on Stevens' 11-yard scoring pass to Kameron Perez with 6:36 remaining.

"Our defense played awesome," Stant said. "And on offense, we said that if they were going to stack the line to stop the run, let's see if we can match up with the passing game and keep things going there."

Kamehameha rolled up 597 yards of offense -- 342 passing and 255 rushing.

"They've got a lot of firepower, and we gave them a lot of breathing room with the turnovers," Look said. "They cut loose with both barrels, and we just couldn't battle back."
