Moanalua leads after day one of boys state golf tourney

Moanalua's John Oda and Mid-Pacific's Zackary Kaneshiro are tied for the lead after the first round Wednesday of the David S. Ishii Foundation/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Boys Golf State Championships at Turtle Bay Resort's Palmer course.

Oda, who won the state title in 2012, shot a 33 on the back nine, and finished three-under par 69. Kaneshiro made four birdies on the front nine to keep pace with Oda. Oda's Moanalua's teammate, Brent Grant, who won the Oahu Interscholastic Association championship last week, is two strokes behind the leaders.

Na Menehune lead the team standings with 285 strokes, 12 better than second-place Punahou, the reigning state champion.

The final round gets underway at 7 a.m. Thursday. Golfers will be going on both the first and 10th tees. The final group tees off at 9:15 a.m. on the first tee.
