ScoringLive learned on Wednesday that Kaiser plans to name Cameron Higgins as its new varsity football coach in a press release Thursday.
The news of Higgins' hiring was confirmed to SL by Cougars' athletic director Rodney Iwasaki via phone Wedesday evening.
Higgins, who served as offensive coordinator under former coach Rich Miano the last two seasons, was a standout quarterback at both Saint Louis School, where he played under Delbert Tengan and was a standout quarterback, and collegiately at Weber State, where he started 43 of the 48 games he appeared in over four seasons. Higgins set school records in career passing yards, touchdown passes, completions and passing efficiency.
Kaiser went 13-1 in 2013 and won the Division II championship in the Oahu Interscholastic Association and the Hawaii High School Athletic Association last season. The Cougars averaged 38.4 points and 265.4 yards of total offense per game. They beat Kauai in the state title game, 17-7, and will be moving up to Division I this year. Kaiser will be in the same division as Kahuku, Leilehua, Waianae, McKinley, Waipahu and Castle in the OIA Red.
Higgins replaces Miano, who stepped down this offseason after two seasons as coach of his alma mater.
