Farrington held off Moanalua's furious second-half rally in a 74-67 win in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red semifinals at McKinley Student Council Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Farrington will play Campbell for the Red Title on 7 p.m. Thursday at McKinley, while Moanalua will play Kalaheo for third place.

Farrington beat Moanalua earlier 80-50 on Jan. 23, but since that game Moanalua went 5-1 prior to tonight.

"It doesn't matter, when playoff time comes, everyone comes to play," said Farrington coach Allan Silva.

Farrington had five players score in double digits. Jacob McEnroe scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Isaiah Smith (3 of 3 on 3-pointers), Isaiah Visoria and Tua Unutoa each scored 12 points and Van Hugo had 10 points.

"When we're challenged we come together and do things. I liked the way we respond to those type of situations and it's discouraging to get in those situations and a lot of times it's self inflicted, credit to Farrington, they did some really good things in the first half," said Moanalua coach Byron Mello.

In the first quarter, Farrington took a 12-7 lead after Isaiah Visoria hit a baseline jumper. Aaron Stuart tied the game at 14 after he hit a runner. Moanalua took a 18-16 lead over Farrington after Antoine Hines had a steal and layup from the inbounds.

In the second quarter, Moanalua took a 21-20 lead after Stuart hit a cutting Elo Badua for the layup. However, Farrington reclaimed the lead after Jacob McEnroe had a putback. McEnroe also had a three-point play in transition and his free throw made it 33-24. He scored 11 points in the quarter. The Govs had two consecutive 3-pointers from Isaiah Smith and Tua Unutoa to take a 39-24 lead at half-time. The Govs outscored the Na Menehune 23-9 in the second quarter.

"I thought our transition defense, we stopped them too late and gave them way too many good looks at the basket and that's what caused the deficit in the first half. You can't get away with that against quality teams, we got to learn that lesson," said Mello.

In the third quarter, Farrington extended the lead to 20 points after McEnroe had a transition layup to make it 49-29. However, Moanalua battled back and used an 11-2 run to close out the quarter after Stuart had a 3-point play. He could not shoot the free throw because the trainer tended to him on the court so Charles Johnson-Maverick made the free throw to make it 52-43. The Na Menehune outscored the Govs 18-17 in the quarter.

Moanalua cut the deficit to 10 after Willis found Karson Cruz for a layup to make it 63-53 and coach Mello called a timeout at 4:18. Moanalua went on a 7-3 run after Stuart had a putback and Farrington called a timeout at 1:16 remaining.

"I think we could've played better defensively, we gave them too many drives to the hole. Moanalua's a good team. I called a timeout, they came back and regrouped and came out with confidence after the timeout," said Silva.

The Na Menehune managed to cut it to three after Badua's field goal to make it 70-67. Isaiah Visoria went 4 for 4 from the free throw line to close out the game and the Govs hung on for the victory. The Govs shot 57.1 percent (20 of 35) from the free throw line.

"We missed to many free throws, if we made those free throws the game would've been over a long time ago," said Silva.

"I told my kids at halftime, our goal was to get the lead down to 10 at the start of the fourth quarter we felt we could make a run at them, we got it down to 11 and sure enough, we made our run, we missed some shots down the end and they were good shots and I can live with that," said Mello.

Four out of five Moanalua starters scored in double figures. Jamaal Willis led the way with 19 points (including three 3s), Aaron Stuart had 18 points, Elo Badua scored 13 points and Antoine Hines added 12 points.
