Sadanaga's performance benefitted team depth

As if mirroring what was going on at Aloha Stadium Saturday night with former Leilehua QB Bryant Moniz, present Mules' QB Kenan Sadanaga had a field day of his own, passing for 204 yards and five touchdowns - in the first half alone - in leading his team to a 52-0 win against Radford.

The win clinched one of the top two spots in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West with Campbell, thus earning both first-round byes in the OIA tournament.

But perhaps overlooked was that Sadanaga's efficiency (17 of 20 passing) and effectiveness gave the Mules a safe lead that allowed them to give backup Josh Jenks crucial playing time. Remember, Andrew Manley was pressed into his varsity debut in the middle of the OIA playoffs when two of Leilehua's varsity QBs got injured. Manley's only experience before that was in JV.

Jenks, who plays receiver, was a modest 6 of 13 for 90 yards and one TD. The other time he got to pass the ball was against Damien about a month ago. He also was 6 of 13 in that game for 149 yards and a TD.

Critics might ask 'What are the Mules doing passing while up 45-0 in the third quarter?' That's Leilehua's primary offense. The backup needs the reps as much as the starter. If the backup must replace Sadanaga in a close game, the Mules would like to know their reserve can execute the same plays as the starter.

It's all part of a program trying to make a run at the league and state titles.
