KALIHI - Farrington used heavy pressure to stay unbeaten in knocking off visiting Kaiser, 57-46, Wednesday night at the Richard Kitamura Memorial Field House.

The Governors (3-0), sixth in the ScoringLive/OC 16 Division I Power Rankings, remain the only underfed team in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division. They are in sole possession of first in the Red with the other six teams locked in a tie for second at 2-1

The Cougars (2-1) suffered their first loss of the regular season, but remain in first in the White.

"Kaiser's a very good team," Farrington coach Allan Silva said. "It's amazing that they're Division II; I don't think so."

Van Hugo scored a team-high 17 points and owned three of Farrington's five 3-pointers.  Isaiah Smith and Jacob McEnroe each had eight points; Smith had the other two 3-pointers.

"Hugo played a very good game," Silva said. "I was more impressed with his defense; he got some steals tonight."

Chance Kalaugher, a 6-5 sophomore forward, led the Cougars with 22 points, 18 coming in the second half.  He had two of his team's four 3-pointers.  Reserve Micah Okamoto had the other two 3-pointers, both late in the game.

With the game tied at 2, Farrington strung an 11-0 run and never looked back.

"That press in the first quarter threw us off," Kaiser coach Branden Kawazoe said. "We had live-ball turnovers. They just converted on the layups and shots. We lost No. 20 a couple times; he's a really good shooter. We just couldn't recover from the 10, 15-point deficit."

No. 20 for Farrington is Hugo.

It was 22-8 by the end of the first quarter. Farrington began subbing in the second quarter and did not score until 2:10 left in the half on a Smith 3-pointer. But during that span, the Cougars managed only six points. Farrington took a 32-16 lead into the half. The Govs' 10-0 run after Kaiser pulled to 22-14 was highlighted by a dunk by McEnroe, who took a long pass from Isaiah Visoria, who came up with a steal.

Kalaugher scored all nine of Kaiser's third-quarter points, but Farrington still had a 43-25 lead entering the fourth period.

Kaiser enjoyed an 8-0 in the fourth in which Kalaugher accounted for six of those points. The Cougars managed three 3-pointers in the closing minute, two drained by reserve Micah Okamoto, including one at the buzzer.

The Cougars were without starting point guard Kelsey Lewis II, who strained his quadriceps from Saturday's overtime win against Kahuku, Kawazoe said.

"He's been running the show for us all year," Kawazoe said. "No excuses; Farrington is an excellent team, but having Kelsey in the game might have given us a better chance to be successful in taking care of the basketball, in getting us into our offense and just calming everybody down."
