KANEOHE - Key saves and a shootout goal by Brandee Lane lifted the Castle Knights over the visiting Moanalua Na Menehune, 1-0, as the Knights won the 4-2 shootout at the end of regulation Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Castle remained undefeated at 6-0 while Moanalua dropped to 5-1.

"Moanalua definitely got some good players and fast players," Castle coach Millie Dydasco said. "It's always a big game for us."

Both teams had their opportunities to score throughout the game, and combined for a total of 25 shots on goal. After 80 minutes of play came to an end without a score, the game went into a shootout.

"We just needed to communicate a little bit more," Lane said. "We were a little off on that," she continued.

The first two shooters for each team sunk their shots into the back of the net. On the ensuing kick by Castle, the ball missed the goal. But the next two shots by Moanalua were blocked by Lane.  After the last save by Castle keeper, the score was 3-2 with one shot remaining for each team. Lane stepped up as the last shooter for the Knights and drilled the game winning shot for Castle.

"I get excited to do PK's," Lane said. "(On the win) it means a lot. My team worked really hard."

The unbeaten Knights will play Kaiser next week while Moanalua heads to Kailua to take on the Surfriders.
