KAPOLEI - Ailani Lorenzo scored the lone goal to keep Campbell Sabers unbeaten.

A crowd of 300 witnessed the Hurricanes fall from the ranks of the undefeated Friday night. With the 1-0 victory over Kapolei, the Sabers improved to 7-0 on the season while the Hurricanes dropped to 5-1.

"It takes hard work to get here," Lorenzo said. "That (goal) wasn't just for me. That was for my whole team. Represents the Campbell Sabers."

The vertical style of play used by the Sabers had to contend with the physical finesse of the Hurricanes throughout the course of the game.

Both teams matched each other shot for shot until the 39th minute of play. A foul committed to the right of the Kapolei 18-yard box presented a scoring opportunity for the visiting Sabers. Ailani Lorenzo took an arcing shot that bounced off the Kapolei keeper and hit the side bar of the goal, deflecting the ball into the goal.

"I just thank the Lord for all his good works." Lorenzo said. "With him all things are possible."

The junior Saber has four goals so far this season.

Campbell's defense also played a key part in their success tonight. The Sabers have allowed only two goals so far this season to go along with five shutouts. The combination of a solid defense and an offense averaging five goals per game has propelled the Campbell Sabers to the top of OIA Red West Division.

"My teammates, I love them just like a family," Lorenzo said. "We work hard together. We do everything together. The chemistry on this team is amazing."

The Sabers next game is against Mililani (4-1) while the Hurricanes play Pearl City (4-2). Both games are next week Friday.
