Saint Louis has decided not to retain football coach Matt Wright after two seasons as head of the Crusaders' stroried varsity program.
The news, which was first reported by KHON's Rob DeMello, was confirmed to ScoringLive by athletic director Ed Paola.
"Matt stepped in after (former coach) Darnell (Arceneaux) left and he stepped in and did a decent job for two years, (but) we just decided to go in a different direction," Paola said when reached by phone Thursday afternoon.
Wright, a 1998 graduate of Iolani, was an Interscholastic League of Honolulu standout linebacker and went on to play at the University of Hawaii from 1998-2002.
Saint Louis went 11-8 in the two seasons under Wright, including an 8-6 mark in the ILH. The Crusaders finished third behind Punahou and Kamehameha both seasons.
Paola said he will post the job opening soon and will be accepting resumes and cover letters until the end of January.
