Kalaheo and Saint Francis to forfeit weekend games

ScoringLive has learned that Kalaheo will forfeit its final regular-season football game against Kaiser this Friday. Mustangs' coach Darrell Poole confirmed the news Tuesday morning, citing a low number of able bodies for the game.

"We will forfeit the game against Kaiser," Poole said. "We just have too many injuries - I have 17 kids out and half of those are concussions - so it's kind of devastated the team."

Kalaheo, which was already eliminated from playoff contention, ends the year with a 2-7 overall record and 2-6 mark in the Oahu Interscholastic Association White Conference. Kaiser, which also won by forfeit over Anuenue earlier this season, improves to 8-1 overall and 8-0 in league play. The Cougars will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming four-team White Conference tournament.

The junior varsity game is still on and will be played at 6 p.m. at Kaiser Stadium. Friday.

Also on Tuesday, Saint Francis announced in an e-mail that it will forfeit its Interscholastic League of Honolulu game against Saint Louis Friday due to injuries sustained during the season.

"We have 26 eligible players after the loss to Kamehameha and we expect to have two more back from the injury list by the start of the ILH (postseason)," head of school Sister Joan of Arc Souza said. "The decision to forfeit was my decision and I have the support of my football coaches."

Souza said she expects enough healthy players to return for the Saints' next game against Iolani in a ILH Division II semifinal on Oct. 19.
