HAWAII KAI - Kaiser finished with an upset victory over Farrington in two straight sets to close out their Oahu Interscholastic Association girls volleyball regular season. The Cougars won 25-22, 25-22 to take home the victory on their senior night.

The Governors, who have already locked in their spot in the OIA Red playoffs as the third seed, saw their 4-game win streak snapped tonight.

Leading the way for the Cougars was senior Tatyana Anderson, who put down a team-high 7 kills in the match.

"She played a great game tonight," said Kaiser head coach Ernest Noborikawa said of Anderson. "One of her most consistent games of the year."

Although Anderson did not start for Kaiser in beginning of the match, she came onto the court early in the first set and knocked in her first kill bumping the Cougars lead to 7-5 which forced Farrington to call a timeout.

"I think it was the best we played," said Anderson. "We played as a team for once."

Noborikawa looks to see the his team with the fifth seed entering the OIA playoffs.

"Hopefully it'll help us out in the OIA playoffs where we're seeded and who we play first and where we travel to - it's a real good win for the girls."

Following Farrington's first timeout in the first set, Kaiser continued to score 11 of the next 14 points, including a 7-point run, powered by senior libero Makena Kaaialii, who served two aces during the streak to push the Cougars well into the lead at 18-8.

But after a serve error by Kaiser, Farrington rallied back, taking advantage of missed passes and Kaiser errors, going on a 12-1 scoring spurt to take the lead, 20-19.

"Our passings were down and we just had to settle down on our passing so we could get back on track." explained Noborikawa about Farrington's rally in the first set.

Kaiser then proceeded to fight back and replied with four points to force Farrington to call their second timeout. Despite the Governors' two-point effort following the timeout, the Cougars took the set with Anderson knocking a kill past a pair of blockers for the final point.

"I like to fire myself up especially when we're down in the ruts." said Anderson. "...play hard as I can to get my team fired up as well so we get a win in the long run."

The second set's point distribution flowed much more smoothly compared to the first. Farrington gave the Cougars trouble mid-game with stellar blocking by Pepe Laloulu and Jeneva Toilolo. Both led all players in the match with four and three block assists respectively.

Kaiser's Makena Kaaialii had a game-high 4 aces and knocked in one kill.

Farrington's Savanah Kahakai paced the Governors with a game-high 11 kills and added one block assist.
