After enduring five losses thus far this season, Pac-Five savored a 37-0 win at the Aloha Stadium on Friday night, shutting down Saint Francis for its first win of the season.

"It's nice to get the first one. We're in a tough league and we're working hard and gotta keep battling. I'm happy for these guys. We worked hard," said Wolfpack head coach Kip Botelho.

Quarterback Anthony Canencia completed 14 out of 22 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Pac-Five to victory. He also notched a touchdown on a rushing play and had nine rushes for 48 yards.

Wide receiver Tsubasa Brennan contributed to the team's win with seven receptions for 137 yards with a touchdown. Slot back Sean Kihei also scored a touchdown on a 25 yards pass reception.

On the Saints' side, quarterback Ranan Mamiya completed 12 out of 21 passes for 143 yards and also made two interceptions during the game defensively. Mamiya also rushed 16 times for 65 yards. Wide receiver Keola Kealoha led all Saint Francis' receivers with four receptions for 42 yards.

The Pac-Five stirred up momentum in the first quarter after defensive line Keanu Holmgren made a fumble recovery in the end zone to score their first touchdown.

They wrecked more havoc in the second quarter after scoring three touchdowns to expand their lead against the Saints.

Austin Silva made a 1-yard run, which was followed by kicker Peter Kim's field goal thanks to defensive back Casey Nakamura's fumble recovery at the Saints' 10-yard line.

Brennan went on to score a touchdown with a 29-yard pass from Canencia, who also made the 25-yard pass to Kihei for the Wolfpack's fifth touchdown in the first half of the game.

"They're (Saint Francis) in our division and it's a must-win for us. It keeps our hopes of competing in DII alive so it was a big win for us. And we got the first one, now we gotta go back to work and prepare for Iolani," Coach Botelho said.

The Pac-Five went on to score one more touchdown in the second half with a 2-yard run by Canencia in the third quarter.

"That was our game plan, we wanted to up tempo and get a lot of plays in," Coach Botelho continued. "Their numbers are down so we wanted to up tempo and run our offense."

This victory improved the Wolfpack's record to 1-3 ILH, 1-5 overall. On the other hand, Saint Francis, with a record is currently 0-2 ILH, 1-5 overall, is still looking to win its first ILH game.

Before Saint Francis made a transition into the ILH, a few of its players had played for the Pac-Five as Canencia recalled it after talking about his team’s first win.

"It feels good, obviously. First win. We kind of expected to have a good game against them especially because we played with them last year and they were part of our team. It was fun," Canencia said. "That kept us motivated."

Coach Botelho also made note of how this first win is a stepping-stone for his team to keep motivated and working towards more wins.

"They're (Saint Francis) in our division and it's a must-win for us. It keeps our hopes of competing in the D-II alive so it was a big win for us. And we got the first one, now we gotta go back to work and prepare for Iolani," he said.

The Wolfpack will head back to the Aloha Stadium next week to play against Iolani while Saint Francis will butt heads against Kamehameha.
