WAILUKU, Maui - The championship of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I state baseball tournament between Mid-Pacific Institute and Mililani was postponed because of rain at Iron Maehara Baseball Stadium.
The game will be made up 7 p.m. Tuesday at Les Murakami Stadium, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association announced.
Officials made postponement announcement about 3:30 p.m. for the scheduled 6 p.m. start. The game was to be televised b OC 16.
The third-place game between Campbell and Hilo, which was moved to Maui High, was canceled, as was the fifth-place game between Baldwin and Maui. Those games will not be made up. The Baldwin-Maui game had been canceled earlier, but the Campbell-Hilo was scheduled to start at 3 p.m., but rain in the area was persistent for several hours.
The Interscholastic League of Honolulu Owls (16-3) are looking for their first title since 2002, when it beat Kamehameha, 6-3, and fifth overall crown. The Owls are 38-15 overall in state tournament play and 33-12 in the championship bracket.The O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red runner-up Trojans (12-7) are making their first appearance in the championship game. The Trojans are 19-25-3 in state games and 11-16 in the championship bracket.
