It's been so long since Campbell or Mililani won an O'ahu Interscholastic Association baseball title that there wasn't even Division II when each claimed the league crown. The two Western Division teams will meet for the OIA Red, or Division I, title at 6:30 p.m. Saturday Hans L'Orange Park.Just how long has it been for either team to wear the crown? The Trojans, the West fourth seed, won their only title in 1997, when Duku Tomimoto fired a perfect game to beat Pearl City, 3-0. The Sabers, the West top seed, won their second crown in 1995, coincidently, beating Mililani, 5-4. That Campbell team was led by infielders Rory Pico and David Perreira, who are now the Sabers' head coach and assistant, respectively. Their coach then was Lane Watanuki, who is Leilehua's coach.Campbell more recently has been in the title game, but lost to Pearl City, 4-3, in 2010. Mililani's last appearance in the title game was in 2000, when it lost to Kailua, 7-4.Leilehua will visit Kailua at 1 p.m. for third place, while Pearl City will travel to Waipahu at 1 p.m. for fifth place. All of the six teams playing Saturday have qualified for the Division I state tournament, which will be held May 8-11 on Maui. The representation mirrors softball, which also has five West teams and one from the East going to states. In the White title game at 3:30 p.m. at Hans L'Orange, top seed Radford will play Wai'anae. The Rams are seeking their third White crown in four years. The Seariders last won a league title in 1998, or in the pre-Division II era.Kaimuki will visit Waialua at 1 p.m. for third place in the White tournament.
