Hawaii Baptist got off to a quick start in what will be a very busy week of volleyball, posting a 25-8, 25-11 win over Damien to improve to 7-0 in ILH Division II play.

"We feel we're getting better," said Hawaii Baptist head coach Teoni Obrey. "Statistically we may not be where we want to be, so that's something that's kind of pushing our kids."

But in a match that took just over 35 minutes from first serve to match point, the defending Division II state champion Eagles dominated from the outset. Outside hitter Michael Fisher played in just the first set, but still notched 10 kills while hitting at a torrid .714 percentage. Hawaii Baptist served up six service aces, with BJ Hosaka and Kaimana Triska contributing a pair.

After a dominating win in the opening game, the Eagles got some of their regulars back into the groove as well as provided some of their younger players some much need game-time reps in set number two.

"We were playing different guys in different positions, trying to get guys some experience." said Obrey. "We have a couple of kids that just returned from school trips during Spring Break. "

Senior Micah Aweau and freshman Caleb Fisher both contributed 5 kills in the match. Aweau, one of the players returing from a Spring Break school trip, put down all five of his kills in the second set alone.

Hawaii Baptist will get right back at it this week, taking on St. John Bosco (Calif.) in an exhibition match set for 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hawaii Baptist's Dan Liu Gymnasium, and then faces a host of mainland and local powerhouses, including Kamehameha-Kapalama, Kamehameha-Hawaii, Kaiser, Kalaheo, Maryknoll and Waiakea in the annual Kamehameha Cup running from April 4-6 at Kekuhaup'io Gym on the campus of Kamehameha-Kapalama.

"We have a challenging week this week." remarked Obrey. "So we wanted to get some kids some touches that normally might not get it."
