Mid-Pacific seeking Athletic Director

Mid-Pacific Institute is seeking an Athletic Director who directs athletic program of team and individual sports for boys and girls. Jo Ito, MPI's current athletic director, has decided to move back to Germany, where he lived before moving to Hawai'i five years ago.

"After our daughter was born, we felt the need to be closer to family," said Ito. "My parents and brother live in Germany, so we will be able to share the experience of bringing up our daughter with them."

Ito will be the Activities Director at the Frankfurt International School (FIS), one of Europe's largest and most renowned international schools.

"The move is great from a family and from a professional point of view. FIS offers an extensive athletic program. Their teams compete with other international schools all across Europe."

MPI's athletic program thrived under Ito's leadership as athletic director, winning seven of the school's 14 total state championships during his five year tenure.

"It will be extremely difficult to leave MPI and Hawaii," said Ito. "My wife, daughter and I have had such a great experience here. I will never forget the day I interviewed for the job. I was confident I could run MPI's athletic program, but I didn't think the school would be willing to take a risk by hiring a person without any local ties. I think it worked out extremely well for everyone involved."

Interested candidates should send their cover letter and resume to: Mid-Pacific Institute, Attn: Lorna Chang, 2445 Kaala Street, Honolulu, HI 96822, Email: [email protected], or Fax: 973-5137.

Qualifications and Experience: Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, five years coaching experience in two sports, and three years experience as head of athletic program at a secondary school. Knowledge of state laws and local athletic programs, leagues, and events required. Certification in athletic administration preferred.
