Position Player of the Year: Sean Yamaguchi, Saint Louis, Sr., SS
Yamaguchi has been a fixture on the left side of the infield for the Crusaders over the years, but took his play to another level this spring. He hit .403 with a team-best 27 hits, 16 runs batted in and 21 runs scored. Yamaguchi also drew 15 walks and stole 14 bases on the year on his way to Interscholastic League of Honolulu Player of the Year honors. The University of Nevada-signee was also selected as the Gatorade State Player of the Year.
Pitcher of the Year: Jayden Perry-Waikiki, Baldwin, Fr., RHP
There were no signs of any growing pains for the Baldwin freshman this spring. Perry-Waikiki racked up a 4-0 record on the mound with an earned run average of 1.02. He tallied 29 strikeouts against just three walks and allowed 16 hits in 34 1/3 innings of work. Perry-Waikiki recorded a season-high nine strikeouts in a win over Maui on Apr. 6 and tossed a complete-game no-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk in a victory over Kamehameha-Maui a week later.
Coach of the Year: Chase Corniel, Maui
The Sabers rebounded from a two-loss regular season to claim the Maui Interscholastic League championship in late April. Corniel's squad put together a 6-0 record in games decided by a single run, including a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis in the semifinals of the state tournament. A 14-3 overall record in 2024 culminated with the program's third state championship. Corniel also led Maui to its previous state crown in 2017.
