SL's take: The Raiders went all the way to the Division I state final in the fall of 2019, but came up just short against Hilo in a 20-17 loss that will likely be remembered as one of the most memorable finishes in this state's prep football history. A handful of players who were sophomores on that squad - and a few who were freshmen - return to this team with high aspirations and a hunger to get back to the championship game. Among the top returnees is Sakashita, who will step into the hybrid outside linebacker/safety position that was filled by now-University of Washington safety Meki Pei, the 2019 All-Hawaii Division I Defensive Player of the Year. Tsuruda is another one of those hybrid players who will be expected to make plays, both against the run and the pass. Mason Mizuta (6-0, 165, Sr.) is another DB who played varsity as a sophomore and will play either CB or FS. All of the linemen can play on both sides of the ball and Passi, who is the center on offense, is expected to do so extensively. Tristan Kim (5-9, 180, Sr.) can either either guard or tackle and will help to protect one of two QBs vying for the starting job in Kualau Manuel (5-9, 140, So.) and Micah Hoomanawanui (5-11, 165, Jr.). Hoomanawanui was the JV starter over Manuel two years ago, but Look feels that both players possess the necessary tools to excel. Ultimately, he wants one player to win the QB job, rather than a two-man rotation. Outside of Bantolina, who ran for 563 yards and 10 TDs while sharing the RB duties as a sophomore, the offensive skill position players are almost entirely new to the varsity level.
