Player of the Year: Max DeTrinis, Damien, So., C/RHP/1B

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound DeTrinis filled multiple roles for the Division II state champions last spring. While he primarily served as the Monarchs' starting catcher, he also pitched in on the mound and saw spot duty at first base as well. DeTrinis batted .404 with 19 hits, including six doubles and three triples. He logged five multi-hit games, including a pair of 3-for-4 efforts against Maryknoll. DeTrinis allowed four earned runs on 18 hits with a 1.01 earned run average in 27 2/3 innings of work. He went 3-1 on the year over seven pitching appearances. DeTrinis fired a complete-game four-hit shutout to lead Damien to a 6-0 win over Waianae in the state semifinals.

Coach of the Year: Skyler Tengan, Damien

Tengan guided the Monarchs to their fourth Division II state championship and its third in four years. Damien reeled off five straight wins to open the year in Interscholastic League of Honolulu play and finished with a 9-5 record in the private-school league, despite playing exclusively against Division I competition. The Monarchs won three games in as many days at states, which culminated with a 3-1 victory over No. 2 seed Kapaa. It was Damien's fourth consecutive appearance in the D2 state title game.
