Sarono's sac fly in 10th helps Sabers hand Na Alii first loss

Shaveh Sarono's RBI-sacrifice fly to score Kayne Carlos in the top of the 10th inning lifted Campbell to a 6-5 win over host Aiea in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I baseball game at Aiea District Park Saturday. 

The Sabers improved to 3-1 in the OIA Division I West standings, while Na Alii fell to 3-1. 

Carlos led off the Campbell half of the 10th inning with a double down the right field line. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Lanzon Nagum before Hunter Lindsey worked a walk to put runners at the corners. Sarono lifted a pitch from Aiea's Kylan Kono to center field for the second out, which allowed Carlos to score the go-ahead run. 

Carlos, the Sabers' fifth pitcher of the game, set Na Alii down in order in the bottom of the 10th inning. Carlos allowed one run on four hits over 5 2/3 innings of relief. He struck out four batters and walked none to get the win. 

Aiea plated the game's first run on Shayden Muraoka's RBI-sacrifice fly to score Ryen Abe in the bottom of the third inning. 

Campbell evened the score in the next half inning with Tainoa Lave's two-out RBI-double that plated Kalaeloa Kalua. 

Na Alii sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth. Kono drove in Abe with a single and both Dennison Zakahi and Cody Kamihara drew bases-loaded walks to put their team back ahead. 

However, the Sabers with a trio of runs in the top of the seventh to tie it at 4. Ismael Diaz drove in a pair of runs with his single through the left side of the infield and Slade Sarono followed with an RBI-single up the middle to plate Shaveh Sarono for the tying run. 

Campbell took its first lead with two outs in the top of the ninth via an RBI-ground out off the bat of Dayton Lorenzo, but Aiea knotted the score in the bottom of the frame despite being down to its final out. Zakahi tied it with his two-out solo home run to right field off of Carlos. 

Kono batted 4 for 5 and Zakahi was 2 for 4 with a walk to lead Na Alii, which used six pitchers. Kono took the loss after he gave up two runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts in three innings of work. 

Aiea will look to bounce back when it visits first-place Mililani (3-0) Wednesday afternoon 

Campbell will visit winless Waipahu (0-3) Friday.
