Shancin Revuelto scored from all over the floor to lead No. 1 Saint Louis past No. 6 Iolani, 43-37, in an ILH Division I opener for both teams at the Father Kenneth A. Bray Athletic Complex Wednesday.

Revuelto, a First Team All-Hawaii selection last season, scored a game-high 18 points and drained two triples as the defending league and state champion Crusaders improved to 1-0 in the ILH.

"This is big to start off the ILH season strong. It's a great feeling and we're going to take it forward for the next game. I've been putting in the work all off season and I had to show it off tonight," Revuelto said.

"Shancin, to his credit, he's worked so hard. He was the silent guy before and he set us up and got us in. They threw their toughest defender and he handled that. He's expanding his game now, he's getting his shot. We added a few guys so he doesn't have to handle the ball as much and we can move him off a bit. All credit goes to him and the work he's put in. He put up a lot of shots and he's worked on a lot to expand his offense," Saint Louis coach Dan Hale said, praising Revuelto.

Reigning Division I All-Hawaii Player of the Year Pupu Sepulona was held in check by the Raiders' sizable frontline and finished with eight points.

Mana Lau Kong led the Raiders with 15 points and fell to 0-1 in the ILH standings.

Revuelto got the Crusaders going with seven-straight points a 9-1 opening quarter run. Ayden Goo got the Raiders' first field goal with a triple and had five in the quarter but Sepulona answered with a 3-pointer from the top. Jordan Nunuha converted a lob from Revuelto and Revuelto hit a floater for a 10-point lead going into the second.

"We wanted to punch first, we did that tonight," Revuelto said.

"That team is a tough matchup for anybody. Especially when Goo gets going and if you lose him for a second, that's a three in your face. He's a game changer and Nela (Taliauli) doing what he does and Mana (Lau Kong) had a good game too. That's a very, very good team. It was a good win for us to start 1-0 for sure," Hale said of Iolani.

Caelan Fernando, a Damien transfer, extended the lead to 11 off a 3-pointer from the right wing, but Lau Kong got the Raiders within five as he converted a 3-point play and hit two of his three free throws. Revuelto added a putback and Sepulona scored off a tip out as the Crusaders led, 23-14 at halftime.

Saint Louis maintained a nine-point cushion following Revuelto's jumper and Jordan Posiulai's free throws. Sepulona picked up his third foul and sat for most of the quarter.

"It turned physical in that game and the chance of him getting his fourth in the third quarter. We got a lot of confidence in guys we were bringing off that can give us hard minutes and tough defense. We still made the run and slowed it down and we got some other guys taking some fouls," Hale said.

Lau Kong scored with an up-and-under move and Goo hit a 3-pointer to cut the Crusader lead down to four, 27-23 and forced a timeout. Kaleb Tenn hit a baseline shot from Nela Taliauli and Lau Kong scored off a cut to tie the game at 27.

Revuelto scored off Meacham's steal as he got it to him for a layup before the buzzer to give Saint Louis a 29-27 lead going into the fourth.

"That was big, that was all momentum heading into the fourth quarter. We had to finish the game," Revuelto said.

"That was a big, emotional lift for us. We needed something at that point, we were stuck on 27 for a while. Couple balls rimmed out and they (Iolani) got it going. These kind of games that are so close, one little momentum and we rode that a bit and that could be the difference. That was a straight hustle play, Keanu makes the play and gets the ball down to Shancin sprinting down, that's what you need to do to beat a good team on the road," Hale said of the third quarter buzzer beater.

Keanu Meacham hit a jumper to open the period and Revuelto followed up with his second triple to extend the lead back to seven to force an Iolani timeout.

Aidan Wong hit a turn around jumper with 4:21 to go to get within two, but Sepulona answered as he converted a reverse and was fouled to push the lead back to five.

Taliauli scored in transition, but Meacham hit a pull up jumper just inside the free throw line to make it, 40-35. Goo's 3-point attempt went long and Revuelto was fouled. From the baseline, Reveulto threw a full court pass to a streaking Fernando in stride for a layup.

"If they play all five up, that's the play we're going to run," Revuelto said of the call and pass.

"That was big. He was looking for it. I hope he gets it there and he's a really good passer on that. He does so much for us. Two guys on Pupu and you have to deal with him and he rose up today," Hale said.

Wong hit a pair of free throws with 15.2 seconds left to make it, 42-37. The Raiders got the ball back with 13.6 seconds left but Sepulona forced Wong to take a tough jumper and Nunuha grabbed the rebound and hit one of two free throws for the game's final points.

Saint Louis hosts No. 7 Kamahemeha-Kapalama on Saturday, Jan. 6 while Iolani goes to No. 4 Punahou on the same afternoon.

Both teams are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletic Center.
