KAPALAMA HEIGHTS — Another week, another defensive gem for the Kamehameha Warriors.

Kamehameha, ranked third in this week's ScoringLive/OC16 Football Power Rankings, got six sacks, forced two fumbles and allowed just 80 yards by Kealakehe in a 34-0 non-league win Saturday night. A crowd of about 1,000 at the Warriors' Kunuiakea Stadium saw the Warriors improve to 3-0 on the season while the Waveriders fell to 0-1 in their 2013 debut.

"They're really talented and they're really well-coached," Kamehameha coach Doug Cosbie said of his defense. "They play hard, they're very physical. They're probably a little upset that they gave up a few big plays, but they're doing a great job."

Through three games this season, the Warriors have allowed just three points and 116 yards by the opposition.

The Waveriders' deepest penetration on offense was at the Warriors' 9-yard line late in the first quarter, but a 26-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Kamehameha's Dylan Kane.

"It's what is expected for us," Warriors' linebacker Chad Souza said. "We just came out and did what the coaches told us to. It was just another day."

Souza finished with five tackles, including two sacks and a forced fumble. Defensive end Mika Tafua finished with a team-high six stops, including five for losses, and a fumble recovery.

Sophomore quarterback Fatu Sua-Godinet and wide receiver William Young were bright spots on the offensive side of the ball for Kamehameha. Sua-Godinet passed for 240 yards with two touchdown and an interception on 12-of-19 passing. Young finished with game-highs of six receptions for 123 yards and two scores.

"Fatu is doing his job, he's getting better and we're ready to play," said Young, who caught touchdown passes of 29 and 26 yards from Sua-Godinet. "It all starts with the linemen doing their job, then we're able to do other things and build off of what they do. I tip my hat to the linemen and I give them credit."

Followed the blocked field goal by Kane, Kamehameha took over at its own 27-yard line. Eight plays later, Brandon Kahookele capped the 73-yard drive with his 2-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds left in the first quarter. The Warriors rushed on seven of the eight plays on the drive that consumed three minutes and 39 seconds.

The Waveriders punted away on their next possession and just two plays later, Sua-Godinet found Young on a play-action roll out for a 29-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was botched and Kamehameha held a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Later in the quarter, Sua-Godinet capped a 7-play, 59-yard drive with his 14-yard run on a read-option keeper around the left end. TJ Fitzsimmons tacked on the extra point to make the score, 20-0, with 1:42 until halftime. The play was set-up by a 24-yard pass from Sua-Godinet to tight end Nicholas Young.

"We're making some progress but it's kind of like two steps forward, one step back — tonight, maybe it was two steps forward and one-and-a-half steps back," said Cosbie, the first-year coach. "Fatu keeps getting better every week. He's learning. He's a really good athlete, he's really calm, really competitive kid, pressure doesn't really get to him mentally. He's going to keep developing and keep growing and I think we'll see that throughout the whole season"

A Kealakehe fumble — forced by Souza and recovered by Lokomakai Recca at the Warriors' 34-yard line — was recycled into Kamehameha's fourth touchdown of the game, a 26-yard touchdown pass from Sua-Godinet to Young, late in the third quarter. Following the Fitzsimmons' extra point, the Warriors extended their lead to 27-0.

"They did a great job, their defense was really good," Waveriders' coach Sam Papalii said of the Kamehameha defense. "They took away some of the things we wanted to do and when we did have some plays going, we just couldn't keep the continuity — we couldn't score — but my hats off to them, they're a good football team."

Kamehameha closed out the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown pass from backup Mahonrai Latu to Jordan Paulo with 57 seconds to play. The Warriors were penalized 16 times for 158 yards, including five personal fouls.

Kealakehe, who had just 30 yards of offense in the first half, finished 2 of 14 on third downs and picked up just nine first downs for the game.

"We're missing playmakers. We're young and it showed," Papalii said of his squad. "The kids fought and we just had a lot of guys playing both ways. We had our share of turnovers and penalties and that type of thing, but you know, we just don't have the playmakers that we're used to having."

The Waveriders, who won the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I title last year, return home for their league-opener Friday at Keaau.

The Warriors, who finished third in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I race last season, meets No. 2 Saint Louis Friday in both teams league-opener.
