There will be a new OIA champion crowned Saturday.
For the first time since 2022, No. 7 Kapolei and No. 1 Mililani will face off for the OIA Division I title at McKinley's Tiger Softball Stadium Saturday.
First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. following the Division II title match between Aiea and Radford at 4 p.m.
Kapolei padded their lead in the seventh inning to topple defending OIA champion and No. 3 Campbell, 12-8 in the nightcap of an all-OIA West Division I semifinal while in the first game, the top-ranked Trojans held off a late push from No. 6 Leilehua, 7-4.
The Hurricanes (9-6) broke through to beat the Sabers (11-3) for the first time this season and last picked up a win against them on Apr. 29, 2022.
Campbell scored four-straight runs, three driven in by Joy Freitas' double to left in the top of the first inning.
Kandi Malama-Ahlo led off with a solo home run to lead off and finished 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored. In the circle, she pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits, striking out two and walking three to pick up the win.
River Hawn lofted a three RBI home run over the right field fence to tie the game at 4.
Kayla Tuiloma gave the Hurricanes the lead with a solo homer in the third inning and Kapolei plated two more runs to make it, 7-4.
Freitas walked and got to third on a wild pitch scored the lone run in the third inning off an error.
Kauhi had a base hit and took an extra base from an error and Faagai brought her in with an RBI shot to right field. Kauhi and Faagai along with Malama-Ahlo and Seminavage each plated a pair of runs.
Keyra Moses-Fuller led off with a bunt single and moved a base on Jaeda Abcede's sacrifice bunt. Kayla Whaley doubled to bring Campbell within two, but Nanea Pantastico grounded out to Malama-Ahlo and Quinn Waiki flew out to Jashia-Lee Hernando.
Malama-Ahlo singled and moved over on a wild pitch. Harley Seminavage dropped a hit into shallow right and Kauhi found a gap up the middle to set up Faagai's monster home run slam to help the Hurricanes double up the Sabers, 12-6.
Sophie Alo led off with a home run and Freitas laced a single and scored the final run.
Kaienna Fuentes-Arellano was charged with the loss after pitching 2 1/3 innings, to scatter five hits. Of the seven runs scored, four were earned as she struck out two.
Mililani pads lead with four HR and fends off Leilehua late, 7-4
Hinano Bautista produced in the circle and at the plate as the top-ranked Trojans padded an early lead and held off a late charge from Leilehua in the final three innings.
Since an 11-9 loss to Campbell on Mar. 16, Mililani racked up nine-straight wins to reach the title game with a 13-1 record.
The Mules (11-4) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end. In that six game stretch, Leilehua has outscored its opponents, 90-11.
Four different Mililani players hit home runs. Garcia put the Trojans ahead in the first inning with her shot to centerfield.
In the second inning, Tanela Simanu doubled and Bautista launched her two RBI shot over the right field fence to make it, 4-0. Bautista, the freshman southpaw, pitched a complete seven inning game to scatter six Mule hits while striking out four and walking two as she improved to 6-0 on the season.
Kolbi Kochi and Makayla Pagampao each homered in the third inning for a 6-0 lead.
The Mules got on the scoreboard as Kawehi Liu (2 for 3) led off with a double and Mere Ursua got on base after a hit by pitch and both scored in the fifth inning.
Jerrell Mailo plated Aubri Nakashima, Garcia's courtesy runner from second base for Mililani's final run of the evening.
Leilehua cut into the deficit with two runs in the top of the seventh as Ari Vierra reached on an error and Liu added a single to shallow right. Each took a base on a wild pitch. Ursua grounded to short to drive in Liu and BB Leong added another with a liner up the middle.
Trinity Cabana-Rodrigues (5-3) pitched two innings and was tagged early with five Trojan runs on five hits and issued two walks in the loss. Leong finished the next four innings with three strikeouts and a walk as two of her four runs were earned.
The Trojans won the previous two contests against the Mules, 13-3 on Mar. 2 and 9-4 on Mar. 28.
Mililani outscored Kapolei 33-2 in their two regular season meetings. The last time the Hurricanes beat the Trojans was in 2022 when it won the OIA title on Apr. 30 and later in the state tournament in the third place game.
Campbell and Leilehua will play off at 1 p.m. to determine the third place.
Earlier this afternoon, No. 8 Kalani beat Moanalua, 5-2 and Waianae edged Kaiser, 10-9 to clinch the OIA's final slots in the DataHouse Softball Championships starting on May 14.
