Pascua takes girls vball helm at MPI

Mid-Pacific Institute announced Drew Pascua as the new head coach for the Girls Volleyball Program. Former head coach Vernon Podlewski recently informed MPI Athletic Director, Jo Ito, that he was not going to return for the 2011-12 school year. "I obviously didn't like the idea of losing coach Vernon. It was a pleasure to work with him last school year. His ability to provide a positive environment for his athletes while always running his workouts with game-like intensity is impressive" said Ito.

New head coach Drew Pascua is no stranger to the MPI Girls Volleyball Program. He was last year's Junior Varsity head coach and is in tune with the goals and vision coach Podlweski set for the program before he left. "It was an easy decision to hire our new head coach from within the program. Drew has extensive coaching experience and a very similar philosophy to coach Vernon. I am confident that he will continue to grow the excitement we currently have for girls volleyball at MPI." said Jo Ito.

Pascua attended San Diego Mesa College in 2003 and 2005, starting at Outside Hitter and earning all-conference honors in 2005, while coaching girls volleyball for Santa Fe Christian School and Solana Beach Volleyball Club. The following year, he accepted a scholarship to play for Warner University (NAIA) in Florida. After completing his college career, he stayed in Florida to finish his degree, in which time he took the helm of his former Men's team and coached them to a top 10 ranking. Soon after graduation, Drew returned to San Diego and coached girls volleyball at Santa Fe Christian. In total, he was with the team for 4 season winning 3 state titles (2003, 2007, and 2008) and 1 runner up (2004). Drew moved to Oahu in 2009 and immediately began coaching for Imi Ike volleyball club and Mid-Pacific Institute.
