Kamehameha names new AD, basketball coaches

Kamehameha named Glennie Adams as its new athletic director this afternoon, and also announced the hiring of Julian Nakanishi as boys basketball coach and Darold Imanaka as girls basketball coach.
Adams, a 1978 Kamehameha graduate, replaces Kanani Souza, who will retire at the end of next month after five years at the helm.
Adams was a four-sport (volleyball, softball, basketball, track and field) standout for the Warriors before earning All-America honors in volleyball at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. She went on to a successful volleyball coaching career at UH-Hilo, Kamehameha, University High and Chaminade.
Adams guided UHS to three straight state championships from 1988 to 1990, and coached Chaminade to a Pac West Conference title and two NCAA Division II tournament appearances. She also served as an assistant athletic director/senior women's administrator at Chaminade before returning to Kamehameha two years ago as an associate AD, overseeing air riflery, riflery, softball, boys and girls cross country, tennis, water polo, diving, soccer and track and field.
Adams also supervised the sport booster clubs and formed the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Board (Hui Na Koa o Kamehameha).
Nakanishi, a 1995 Kamehameha graduate, takes over the boys basketball program from twin bother Jesse, who accepted an assistant coach position at Hawai'i Pacific University after eight seasons at the Warriors helm.
Julian Nakanishi was an assistant coach during those eight seasons, which included state championships in 2008 and 2010 and three straight state title game appearances.
Imanaka, a 1971 graduate of Kalani, guided his alma mater to the 2006 Division II Girls Basketball State Championship and the DI state quarterfinals the following year.
