KAILUA – Fullback David Fangupo scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 6-yard run with 7:13 remaining in the third quarter Friday night as Kealakehe rallied past Kailua, 10-3, in non-league football action.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Kailua played without returning quarterback Kahaku Iaea and running back Jarrin Young, both of whom did not suit up. They hope to return to practice Monday.

The Surfriders took a 3-0 lead with 5:05 left in the first quarter on Naia Graham's 35-yard field goal, but the Waveriders' Keoni Yates tied it with a 47-yarder with 5:24 remaining in the second quarter.

Fangupo then scored the go-ahead TD four plays after an errant punt snap resulted in a 36-yard loss for Kailua and set up Kealakehe at the Surfriders' 22-yard line.

Lennox Costales, a fleet-footed tailback lined up deep in the Waveriders' three-back I-formation, finished with 97 yards rushing on 23 carries, and Fangupo - a 6-foot-2, 348-pound fullback - added 56 yards on 10 rushes.
