WAIPAHU -- Dylan Sugimoto tossed a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks yesterday to help Waipahu defeat Kalaheo, 5-1, for the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference baseball championship.

The Marauders finished league play at 14-0 and will be the OIA's top seed in the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division II State Championships May 9-11. The Mustangs (10-4) also qualified for the state tournament along with Waialua, which edged Radford, 11-10 in 11 innings yesterday for third place.

"Its just great," said Sugimoto, a sophomore left-hander. "Coming into this game, we just figured that this year was our redemption year ... it was kind of revenge for us coming off of the loss last year (in the OIA White title game to Radford)."

Waipahu took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, after two wild pitches and an error. Kalaheo closed it to 3-1 in the fourth after Matt Lee broke up Sugimoto's perfect game with a single to left field, advanced to second base on Bryan Silva's sacrifice bunt and scored on Alika Andres' double to right.

The Marauders extended the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth after Jarinn Afaga-Abreu's RBI single and a wild pitch that allowed Luke to score from third.
