WAIPAHU -- Kapolei got penalty kick goals from Kalei Gallarde, Dylan Orian, Kainoa Ke-a and Brandon Begonia after two overtimes last night to squeeze past Baldwin, 2-1, in the JN Automotive Group/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer State Championship quarterfinals.

The No. 2 seed and O'ahu Interscholastic Association champ Hurricanes improved to 11-5-1 in the regular and postseason and will face Interscholastic League of Honolulu runner-up Punahou (9-2-1) in tonight's 7 o'clock semifinal at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Madias Thompson scored in the 10th minute to give Maui Interscholastic League runner-up Baldwin (7-3-4) the early advantage, but Ke-a answered with a goal in the 34th minute to tie it at 1-1.

The game remained tied throughout regulation and both overtimes.

The Bears then shanked two penalty kicks and Begonia sealed it with a shot into the left side of the net after an approach to the right.

Baldwin will face No. 3 seed and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Hilo (14-2-1) in a 3 p.m. consolation bracket game today at Field 8.
