Kailua jumped out to an early 8-0 lead and never looked back as it cruised to a 82-53 win over host Lahainaluna in the opening round of the Heide & Cook/HHSAA Division I Boys Basketball Championships Monday afternoon.

Jonny Philbrick scored a game-high 24 points to lead a trio of Surfriders who scored in double figures. Noa Donnelly followed with 15 points and Maddox Pung finished with 11 points as Kailua advances to take on defending state champion Saint Louis Wednesday in the second quarterfinal at Moanalua's gymnasium.

Kanaau Castro scored 22 points to lead the Lunas in their season-ending loss.
