Through the lens: Greg Yamamoto

Staff photographer Greg Yamamoto has been with ScoringLive literally since the begining, and involved in photojournalism for many, many years prior.

Coaches often talk about effort and attitude as the only two things that one can truly control within any athletic contest.

Effort is the theme of this photo blog, a collection of photos that exhibit the supreme focus, the ultimate determination and will to win of the student-athlete. A single picture, of course, doesn't tell the entire story of any game or match — which has its ebbs and flows, highs and lows, peaks and valleys — but a single frame does provide a snapshot in time, a singular moment frozen captured with a click of the shutter.

Sports serve as entertainment for most, but at its core it is a competition. A competition between teams and individuals, but mostly within one's self.

Each photo reveals a little bit about the individual and his or her will to win. Behind each picture, however, is a reminder of the hours and hours of dedication and hard work, the individual sacrifice for the greater good and a chance to savor that ever-sweet taste of victory.
