Waimea blasts Kaiser to reach D2 semifinals

Waimea is moving on in the New City Nissan Division II Girls Volleyball State Championships.

The Menehunes bested fourth-seeded Kaiser in four sets at Saint Francis' gymnasium Thursday night for a 25-19, 25-23, 17-25, 25-13 quarterfinal win.

Gabrielle Peleras had a match-high 19 kills with 14 digs and two aces and Raelee Samio added 12 kills with seven blocks to power Waimea (12-2) into the semifinals, where it will face Sacred Hearts in the second match at Saint Francis.

Jaylynn Nihipali had 11 kills, 12 assists, seven digs and four blocks to lead the Cougars (7-7) in the loss.
