KALIHI — Falcons quarterback Seth Tina-Soberano continued to let it fly, throwing three touchdowns and running another one in as ninth-ranked Kalani blanked the Waialua Bulldogs, 33-0, Saturday evening in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II contest at Edward 'Skippa' Diaz Stadium at Kusonoki Field at Farrington High School.

Tina-Soberano completed 18 of 32 passes for 277 yards, bringing his season total to 1,008 and becoming one of three quarterbacks in Hawaii to eclipse the 1,000-yard season passing mark this weekend. Of those three — Kapolei's Kaniala Kalaola (1,151 yards) and Iolani's Tai-John Mizutani the other two — Tina-Soberano is the only one to have not thrown a single interception.

On the receiving end of two of touchdown passes was senior Travis Tagad, who had three catches for 89 yards. He scored on passes of 49 and 19 yards to help the Falcons go up 13-0 in the first quarter.

This was the second consecutive week Tagad hauled in a pair of TD receptions, having caught five passes for 82 yards in a 57-24 win over McKinley a week ago.

Kalani's quarterback also did damage on the ground, scoring on a 49-yard run in the second quarter. Tina-Soberano finished the game with 105 rushing yards.

Senior running back Ikaika Holden also ran in a score from 2 yards out in the third quarter.

Tina-Soberano later hooked up with Zachary Wong for a 14-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons now stand with a .500 record at 2-2. They'll travel to Washington this weekend for a non-league matchup against the Mount Tahoma T-Birds (Tacoma, Washington) before returning to play at Waipahu (2-0, 3-0 overall) on Sept. 16.

The defending OIA D2 champion Waialua Bulldogs fall to 0-3 (0-4 overall) with their third consecutive shutout in the scoring column.

Sophomore Kyler Dicion got the start at quarterback after senior Tevesi Toia suffered a recent season-ending injury. Dicion finished 12 for 41 for 85 yards with two interceptions.

The Bulldogs' next opponent is also Waipahu, whom they'll play at 7 p.m. Friday night for the first game on their new home field.
